she's in love with her broken heart

I have a pretty good and busy week. Slight downfall was the fact that I have a cold, still a little bit but luckily it's pretty gone. Thursday was the best day of last week as I got to see They Might Be Giants for the third time and it was particularly awesome. I sang and danced and had an awesome time. We even went into a used book/record store and Matt somehow talked me out of buying anything which was quite a feat. They played so many good songs, stuff that I hadn't been expecting to hear and some of my faves that I've heard in concert before. I will so definitely go to see them again next time they are in the area. I am of course listening to them nonstop, I always tend to do this after seeing an extremely awesome concert. I bought a cool science is real shirt and also a bumper sticker which I will put in one of my journals since I don't have a car and all.

I also got to see my grandparents as they came up yesterday to help my sisters out. It was a nice visit, although my grandpa was telling crazy stories as he always does. We had a nice dinner and they want to buy us a chair for our apartment. At first she asked if I had bought a washer/dryer yet and for a moment I thought she wanted to get us those as well. I told her that I had enough saved for those and then she asked if we'd gotten a chair yet. They were maybe going to spend the night but then Grandpa remembered that he hadn't put the garbage out to be picked up and need to get home.

Tonight I came over after work to do laundary and catch up on all my new shows. I watched the first two episodes of Dollhouse which were awesome. I was excited to see Jamie Bamber and Alexis Denisof. I enjoyed the first episode a little better but the second one was good too. Then I watched the new House and now I'm waiting for my laundary to finish drying and for Castle to come on.

Tomorrow I have a day off so I am going to sew. I made this really cute pear skirt but I had extra fabric left over and so now I am contemplating tearing out the zipper and turning it into a cute pear dress instead. I also have a pair of curtains that need finishing - all that's left to do is sew the casing to put the curtain rod through. Then I may work on another skirt or dress or maybe my bedskirt. Oh and I also have to finsih sewing the binding on my quilt. I need to take some pictures of all the things that I've been working on so that I can post them. I also knitted some cute stuffies - an earthworm and an anglerfish. Well, it's almost time for Castle so I'm going to go claim my spot on the couch.

just an entity floating on the wind

Long time no write as I didn't have my computer for about three months. Both the battery and the cord decided to my laptop died on me at the same time but now I have a new one of each. I was quite happy but now I am not sure how good this will be for my productivity. I feel like I've accomplished a lot with out my computer to lure me away. It's not as bad at my apartment because we still don't have the internet but I totally can start making icons again which is the exciting part.

So I had a busy concert filled with concerts and sewing. I made curtains for the apartment, the orange skirt in my new header, a couple of other pieces of clothing and a quilt for my bed. I have to still take pictures of most of the things. I also have been journaling really regularly in my physical journal which I'm really proud of because I'm notoriously bad at journaling regularly. I've also been knitting a lot - scarves, socks, little stuffed creatures. I've also been working on this afghan for my Ma for like two years and I really need to get that finished.

Other than that things are going well. I was able to catch up on a lot of my dvds that I've had in line to watch. Finished Stargate Atlantis and caught up on all the realeased seasons of The Simpsons. I was also able to catch up on House in time to start the new season which I thought was so good. I heard from a couple of people that they missed the diagnostics aspect but I really didn't. I've always loved learning about characters more than anything so I thought it was a really well done episode.

Thursday I am going to see TMBG and that's cool but I really wish that I had challenged myself this summer and pushed myself to get my license. There are so many other good bands coming to my area and it kind of saddens me because I don't have anyone to go with as they don't listen to my type of music. Oh, that's the other thing I've done this summer, listened to tons of new music. So many good bands have released albums this year and I have a lot of older new to me music to listen to as one of my coworker's husbands is getting rid of his vinyl and generously gave a whole bunch to me. I've been busy and content and for the most part doing really well. Hopefully, I will post again soon.

Singing soft and low, singing rock and roll

Tonight I went to see Crosby, Stills and Nash with my sisters, Mom and Dad. It was a pretty awesome show. It started out with an acousic set that was really pretty. Peek really wanted them to play the song "Helplessly Hoping" as it's her fave CSN song so she was very excited when they opened the show with it. It was a very pretty version. They also played a bunch of covers songs that were written by other song writers/their friends. They played "Ruby Tuesday", "Reason to Believe", "Girl From the North Country" and "Uncle John's Band". At one point a man must have yelled out "I love you David" which prompted a very funny quote from Crosby. He was saying how the guy should have had his girlfriend or sister yell it out because "When he hears that big biker voice yell out 'I Love You Dave' it takes him right back to prison. They played a really pretty version of "Our House". Graham Nash mentioned how they had been in Cananda a few days ago and that always makes him think of Joni. He then played the really pretty version of "Our House" and it made me a little teary. Ma says she thinks she liked the acoustic version of the show best which doesn't surprise me. She quite likes her acoustic music and I enjoy acoustic stuff as well but I think the rocked out, electric portion of the show was my favorite.

They took a fifteen minute break and came out with one of my fave Buffalo Springfield songs "Rock N Roll Woman". It was an amazing version and Stephen Stills really rocked it out. His guitar playing was smoking and awesome all night. It inspired me to dance like whoa. When the song was over Graham Nash suggested "We all go to Morocco and smoke a big one" and I knew that the next song was going to be "Marrakesh Express". It's not my favorite of their songs but it was a fun song and made me dance and smile. Then they play "Long Time Gone" which is an awesome little rocker. Next was Deja Vu which Nash was kind of gushing about and then Crosby said that Nash wrote the anthems, Stills wrote awesome Rock and Roll - those guys wrote the hits and "I'm supposed to write the weird shit." I love this song and it was really sweet live just kind of rolling over itself and flowing wonderfully. There were some awesome guitar parts by Stills as well. They played "Bluebird" which is one of my favorite songs but I think I prefer the album version with the acoustic and banjo. This was cool though - all electrified and the guitar parts were super spacy and atmospheric. The song sounded huge and beautiful.

Then Nash wanted Stills to play some blues so they played "Wounded World" which I guess is a cover that went into "Rocky Mountain Way" by Joe Walsh. They played a super nice version of "For What It's Worth" the guitar parts were sick. I had brought my journal so that I could write down the setlist. That's always the worst part after the show, trying to find the setlist. So I was writing down the song titles/lyrics to the songs that I didn't know and after "For What It's Worth" I even wrote sick guitar solo. It was awesome. That was the last song proper before the encore. They came back out and played an awesome jammy version of "Wooden Ships" and then acted as if they were going to leave again but ended up playing "Teach Your Children" as well. It was a fun concert and I'm so glad that they came to my town and that I got to watch them play. That's three more of my rock loves that I have now seen live. If I made a list of all the old and new bands that I love it would be interesting to see which ones I can cross off the list. Probably not to many which is kind of my own fault for not being able to drive.

There were other things I was going to write but now I can't remember. My sister noticed and so did I that every once in a while Stills would plug his ears to hear himself better for harmonizing. I also noticed that they all had very different movement styles when it came to their singing/playing. Stills kind of swayed and grooved. Nash seemed very emotive and English which may seem to not go together but he used his hands and body alot which I've seen many English singers do. Crosby was the most still and almost seemed to be singing upwards to the heavens. It was an enjoyable evening with great music and an awesome atmosphere. The one song that I was hoping to hear and they didn't play was "Suite: Judy Blue Eyes" but hearing some of the other songs completely made up for not hearing that one.

1. Helplessly Hoping
2. You Don't Have To Cry
3. Ruby Tuesday (Rolling Stones cover)
4. It's Alright (James Taylor cover)
5. Reason to Believe (Tim Hardin cover)
6. Girl From the North Country (Bob Dylan cover)
7. Guinevere
8. [maybe] Where will I Be?
9. In Your Name
10. Our House
11. Uncle John's Band (Grateful Dead cover)
12. Southern Cross

approx. 15 minute break

13. Rock N Roll Woman
14. Marrakesh Express
15. Military Madness
16. Long Time Gone
17. Deja Vu
18. Bluebird
19. Wounded World >
20. Rocky Mountain Way
21. Almost Cut My Hair

Band Intros

22. For What It's Worth

Encore

23. Wooden Ships
24. Teach Your Children

Today was an okay day until I came over to my parents house and got online. Now it is an insanely awesome day and I feel very happy. The first thing that I saw were amazing new pics of Johnny Depp and the second thing I saw was the trailer for Beatles Rock Band and OMG I am so much more excited for it now. I simply don't know how I am going to wait for September. I know that Sept. is really not that far away but it feels like forever. The songs they showed and have listed on the site are all pretty cool, the ones that I'm most excited about so far are I Feel Fine and Taxman which are two of my favorites. I can't wait till the rest of the song list is released. I don't even really know how many songs are going to be part of the game. The other thing that I really want but will probably not get are the controllers. I was drooling over Paul's Hofner and John's Rickenbacker. I was only going to say those two and then I went back and looked again and George's Gretsch is pretty amazing too. I also want to know how I forgot that George played a Gretsch much of the time, seeing as how Gretsch has made many of my favorite sounding guitars and no wonder I love the Beatles music so much. Actually they were my first musical love and maybe that's why I love the sound of Gretsch guitars so very much. I'm so very excited for this game.

We still do not have internet at home and I am actually not missing it as much as I thought I would but that's probably because I've been coming here a couple times a week. Things are going well at the apartment. I have most of my things over there and unpacked and now I am working on decorating. I made really cute curtains for the bathroom and have some really cool pictures and things that I'm going to hang in my room. I also have material to make curtains for many of the other rooms and I am working on making myself a quilt, bedskirt and pillow shams. I am also going to recover the pillows on my bed to match my color scheme of pink, green, cream and brown. I also have super pretty fabric that is in the muted yet bright vintage colors with birds allover it to make shades for my bedroom. I'm very excited and things are coming along very well in there.

I hear the tiniest sparks and the tenderest sound

Happy Record Store day!

Unfortunately I didn't get to take part in the festivities because I forgot to ask for the day off and had to close. If I had been opening I would have been able to swing it and headed up after work. Ah, well - I definitely want to take part next year. Hopefully they will have as many cool 7" as they did this year. Luckily I did get to take part in one special part of the day, Paste was having a name your own price for 12 issues so I subscribed to it. My mom used to subscribe and now I buy it every once in a while so I figured that I should take advantage and subscribe. I'm excited as even though it is not as wonderful as it once was I still quite enjoy it.

Really loving Neko Case lately. I had been meaning to check her out for a long time. Actually, she has a song on one of Ma's paste samplers that I really loved and I just never got around to buying any of her albums and Fox Confessor Brings the Flood has been in my amazon recommendations forever. She realeased Middle Cyclone this year and I finally bought that all because of Rock Band. I had purchased the alt-country pack because even though I didn't know many of the songs I love the genre and like many of the bands that were included. I knew that I like Neko's voice, Steve Earle is really wonderful, Lucinda Williams is hit or miss but I've only heard a handful of her songs and I love the Old 97s. With such great bands I couldn't help but buy it and I'm so glad I did. I haven't purchased all of the 97s albums yet and so heard a song by them that is one of my new favorites and I finally decided to check out Neko Case's music.

Last night I realized that Elvis Costello's Get Happy!! has become one of my favorite albums. It took a while for me to really love this album, I bought it at the same time as Imperial Bedroom. I played both and Get Happy didn't really click so I spent a lot more time with the other album. Actually I really, really fell in love with the song "Secondary Modern" and put it on a couple of playlists/mix cds but another than that Get Happy!! was pretty routinely ignored. I don't know when I started to listen to it more, if it was when I bought it on vinyl or if I just started kicking it on the ipod every once in a while but it has really grown on me so much. It's a perfect spring record for me, the lyrics aren't springlike, I couldn't actually place which season I feel that they are from but the music just makes me dance and smile and feel renewed - definitely springlike.

Today I had the urge to make a mix of my favorite songs/artists that scream. Now I'm listening through some of my music and finding that it's not going to be as easy to compile as I thought. I know some of the artists that I want to include but I have no idea which of their songs I should use because they have many good examples. This is why I find it much harder to make theme mix cds rather than just letting the songs flow and intuiting what songs should follow others.

Lost was really intense over the past two weeks. I watched them both tonight as I wasn't home last Wednesday and hadn't had a chance to watch last weeks before tonight. I don't even know what to write about them because I am still processing everything that happened. The one thing that I know was awesome was when Farraday popped up at the end of tonights episode. He was in the sub and to my Mom I was all "Is that Daniel?" and she replies "Well, it sounded like his voice" and then I proceeded to squee and get all bouncy and then he came out of the sub and was all 'Hi Miles' and then I squeed some more. Very excited that he's going to be back. :D

Happy Easter!

Happy Easter everybody!

Yesterday Maggy, Alicia, Casey and I spent the morning coloring Easter Eggs which is always so much fun. The kit we got also had some of the shrinky kind that you place in boiling water, I used to love those as a kid so I was pretty excited. This morning Mom and I made her Grandma's coffee crumb cake thing which is very tasty. Now I'm just hanging out waiting for my Grandparents to come. Pretty egg pictures are under the cut. :)

when you get the time sit down and write me a letter

Just got back from a super amazing night. We picked up Alicia at the mall where she had been hanging with her friend Tiffany and the started early with dinner at this cool little Italian Restaurant by the mall called Bellini's. I had this really awesome spinach salad with these huge chunks of mozzarella and a citrus vinagrette, carbonara pasta which is basically spaghetti in a cream sauce with pancetta and peas. For dessert I had Tiramisu and it was so good. I had been craving it for a while. Everything was really good and they were playing fun italian music like Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin.

Then we went up into Rochester to go to Record Archive. Oh My God I think I am in love with Record Archive. Such an awesome store and full of wonderful used records and used cds and new cds and all sorts of posters. Alicia was looking for a poster for her dorm room and found a cool Starting Line poster that I guess is the cover to one of their albums. She also found a cool cd that was stuff that the Beatles had written but never recorded. Mom got a used Bob Marley cd for $5, I guess all the used cds are that price which is pretty awesome. My interest though was in the vinyl of which there is a crazy amount. It's alphabetical but other than that not sorted and there is such a crazy amount that I was a little overwhelmed. I still came out with some pretty awesome records though. I got 10 albums for $20 and most of the albums were priced at $3 or $5 and so I thought I got a really good deal. I got Stephen Stills - Stephen Stills, Thunderclap Newman - Hollywood Dream, David Bowie - Changestwobowie, George Harrison - Somewhere in England, Blood Sweat and Tears - Blood, Sweat and Tears, Simon and Garfunkel - Parsley, Sage, Rosemary and Thyme, Elvis Costello and the Attractions - Blood and Chocolate, Elvis Costello and the Attractions - Punch the Clock, Elvis Costello and the Attractions - Imperial Bedroom and Elvis Costello and the Attractions - Get Happy!. I can't wait to listen to them all over the next couple of days. I also can't wait to go back when I have more time and actually get to thoroughly search through the shelves. Then Mom and I dropped Alicia back off at school and then headed to Auditorium Theater for The Cardinals concert. Which was so awesome.

I can't decide if this concert was better than the one that I saw in 2005 or not because they were so different. Both rocked in completely different ways and oh they pretty much leave me speechless and awesome. I didn't really have any songs that I really wanted them to play so every time a song started and it wasn't one of the new songs I was oh my god I love this song and super excited. They played my three favorite songs Please Do Not Let Me Go, Peaceful Valley and Let it Ride which are my go to songs when I am in the downest moods and need to be broken down and then built back up which they do completely. I don't even know how to explain how the show left me feeling because it just left me so completely mellow and spaced and happy and dancy and there isn't a feeling that I've ever had that's quite the same as a Ryan Adams concert. His voice was amazing it soared and swooped and just left me feeling amazing. I loved both Ryan's and Neal's guitar solos they were heavy and soaring and melodic in all the right places. Brad had some really kicking drum parts and Graboff and Spacewolf were awesome as well. It was such a satisfying concert and this time I didn't have to worry about Mom enjoying herself and was just able to let go and enjoy myself. Mom was a little upset because the people in front of us wouldn't sit down and so she could barely see which I can understand because I sort of had that problem but I could mostly see instead of not really being able to see at all. Some of the people were being really rude but it worked out to our benefit, especially during Wonderwall when the band really turned up their performance and it created such an immense version of the song.

Now I am watching Long Way Down which I was excited to find because ever since I heard that they were making it I have wanted to see it as I enjoyed Long Way Round so much. Plus it has Ewan McGregor so pretty much I am going to enjoy it anyway and they are in Africa which is really cool. Africa has such a neat culture and it's so different than anything I've ever experienced here.

Here's the Setlist:

Cobwebs
Come Pick Me Up
Two
Magick
Diana Ross Banter
Wonderwall
Fix It
The Sun Also Sets
Off Broadway
Peaceful Valley
Bartering Lines
Goodnight Rose
Go Easy
Dear John
Mockingbird
Natural Ghost
Freeway to the Canyon

Break

Crossed-Out Name
Let It Ride
Please Do Not Let Me Go
Everybody Knows
When the Stars Go Blue
What Sin
I See Monsters

some days we get a thrill in our brains

I'm really digging Beck a lot since I picked up Modern Guilt which I am really loving. I also finally borrowed Sea Change from Matt and I don't know why I never borrowed it before. I've only listened to it once and I really love some of Beck's other records but OMG Sea Change has great potential to become my favorite. It actually reminded me muchly of the lovely Nick Drake whom I know that Beck likes. Well at least he covered the beautiful song "Which Will" so I'm assuming he's a fan of some sort. Mmmm, but I love the blending of Beck's voice with acoustic guitar and strings it's like a perfect fit and I think he does so well with whatever genre he plays in but Sea Change is so right up my alley. I still really love Odelay though because it makes me dance so much which is such a very good thing. That may actually be one of my favorite records to dance to and it would be awesome if it was released on vinyl and i could find it because it must sound so good with the added texture. All that I can say is yum to both the man and his music.

Articulate all that pain and maybe you'll get paid

So tonight was a pretty ok night for not being able to go to the Dylan concert which I guess most people were saying was just ok anyway. I worked and had a pretty good night there, I pretty much got two planograms finished which made me feel very accomplished. Just have to finish putting new price tags on some of teh buttons and then that will be done.

Then went to Denny's and had some really yummy chicken strips and two types of potatoes 'cause I am a potato freak. Will was there but he wasn't having a very good night and that made me feel bad 'cause people can be shits. Not Will obviously but some of the other customers. Yeah, it's not cool to be like that and I can't understand it a lot. Oh, my favorite guitar part in "It's a Hit" just finished and it's so awesome and I can't even explain.

I've been really into Rilo Kiley lately. Seriously they're really jumping in the rank of favorites. I mean granted they were already pretty high because lots of the time I don't really like female singers. IDK why, I think it's because they just don't hit me like male singers voices and they can convey things but usually not as well. Does that make any sense? Anyway, I only have a handful of female singers that I listen to consistently but when I find a female singer that I like I tend to really connect with and love that singer. I think though that Jenny Lewis is defo my fave female singer of all times. I love her lyrics and her voice and I won't ever love her as much as say Ryan but I think she has definitely risen into my top ten muscian list. Well, she's been there for a while but I've just been listening to Rilo a lot lately. Wow, talk about rambles.

The cat and dog are chasing each other through the house. It's amusing. For once I decided to come downstairs and actually get a signal instead of just fighting the on and off signal up i n my room. If they have a problem with that then I don't care because seriously I just can't deal with my room right now. I have so many projects that I need/want to finish that I haven't even begin to deal with the mess I made in my room when I couldn't find my camera charger but it is quite draining and makes me sad.

When I got home from Denny's Peek had a fire going in the back with some of her friends as a little going away party because Russell leaves for Wake Forest tomorrow. It was nice and they were all getting kind of sad because they all will really miss each other. When all the kids from high school are splitting up and going to college it kind of seems like a super big deal at the time but then it doesn't when you're older. Anyway after Peek and her friends were gone I tried to build the fire back up but I think I kind of killed it. I would get it going for a little while and then it would just flicker back to embers. Apparently fire building is not one of my strong suits even though I enjoy fires very much.

I guess that's all for tonight. Tomorrow I have to sew some more, I have one more row of blocks for Alicia's quilt to put together. Then I have to sew all the blocks together, put the border on, put the batting and back on and quilt it. It sounds like a lot of work but it shouldn't be all that bad. Ok, I'm not doing that all tomorrow. I'll sew some and then go in for a short shift at work and then come home and hopefully sew some more but more than likely watch tv or play on the computer. I have to focus on the quilt though so that I can begin to make my Gypsy and Air Pirate costumes and to work on drafting the patterns for some pieces for my regular wardrobe which makes me nervous and excited. Oh, I also must listen some more to my new Beck and Old 97s cds. So far I like what I hear on both of them but I haven't listened to them more than once so I guess we'll see. I think I'm really going to enjoy the Beck because Danger Mouse helped produce and I seem to really like his production that I've heard.

It's so joyous to be sitting in a house empty of all but the sound of Warren Zevon, the fresh smell of the iron, the rain pouring down and the clack of the sewing machine. (I should try to pare that down into a Kerouacian haiku)

I was tuning in the shine on the light night dial.

So I'm procrastinating and making icons instead of working on sewing together my sister's quilt. I actually should start posting some of the icons because I think I have almost 250 sitting on my harddrive waiting to be posted.

Last week was so busy. I had the concert on Monday, afterwards we went to Denny's to visit Will. Matt and Casey went home and I hung out there for a while, I don't even know how long because I have a bad memory. Will played me some cool songs that on my own I would never know what to listen to because it's not in the realm of my musical knowledge at all. Nerdcore (right? - heh, see I really do have a bad memory) and some other cool stuff that is more in my realm but I didn't know and I can't remember the one guy's name who he said I should pick up. Then I came home and got to bad around 5ish and was woken up around 9ish to be asked to go into work at one. So of course I said yes 'cause extra hours are good and then stayed up to edit some of my concert pics which are evil and I guess I totally resized them too small because they are tiny and do not make me happy. I have to re-edit and repost them because some of them turned out really cool but you really can't tell because of the littleness. So then I got frustrated by that and left out half of what I wanted to write and made Will think that he didn't rank or something but really I was frustrated and tired and a little loopy which was kind of fun at work. I had intended to post more about that night and the videos from the concert which obviously didn't happen.

Then on Wednesday my Mom's cousin from Spain and his wife and son Kevin came to visit along with my Aunt Geri and Uncle Dan (his parents but that's probably obvious). We had burgers and hot dogs and my Dad way overcooked - he made like 30 burgers and 30 hot dogs for 12 people. Plus we had pasta salad, salt potatoes and fruit salad so it was a lot of food but it was all really good. Then after dinner Kevin saw that Matt had a Wii and his parents don't allow him to have any video game consoles at all so he was really excited. We put in Wii sports and he was having so much fun. He fishes all the time at his grandparent's house and really loves it, so at one point he blurted out "This is better than fishing!" which made us all crack up. He didn't want to leave he was having so much fun, he and I had been playing a game of baseball and when it finished he was begging to play another game and his mom was all please turn it off and I was all like that was the plan.

Lots of other stuff happened like being super crazy at work and trying to work on Alicia's quilt. I'm kind of getting there with it but like I said I'm procrastinating. I have three rows done and five more to go which doesn't seem like a whole lot but it's all little triangle work and so it's taking my a lot longer than I had anticipated that it would take. I'm having fun working on it as I've never done a quilt that was this involved before. I think it's going to turn out really awesome and she seems to really like how it's looking.

Last night I made myself a new header and a pinky star background which photobucket resized and looks seamed which at first I hated but now am kind of liking. I'm quite happy with it though because it's pink and teal and girly and very light compared to the dark layout I had going on before. I want to redo my icons though as there are some that I never ever use that are just taking up space.

I also watched the new episode of Project Runway and still can't decide which contestant I like best. Some of them have made some really cool outfits but no one has blown me away yet. So far I'm not enjoying this season as much as some of the others but it's pretty early in the season still.

There's A World Out There

It started out with the opening band Year Long Disaster who didn't suck but were very loud and all their songs sounded exactly the same. I was over them pretty quickly. The next opening act was Supergrass who were fun. I like some of their stuff and it was cool to get to see them but I was really there for the Foo Fighters who were amazing. They were rocking and funny and had some sick as hell jams in the songs and played for like two and a half hours. I was fangirling majorly. I got some cool pics, they turned out way better than I thought they had and took some videos. I was so paranoid when I was taking the videos though because there was this securtiy guy who came and stood in front of my section everytime that I was recording. Therefore I didn't finish recording many full songs. Dave had some really funny bits, one about how they're going to be on Top Chef and he shouldn't blow the secret but they made them really awesome meals ... in a toaster oven. He was so excited and then someone in the audience must have told him he needed to be quiet about it because he was all sarcastic and oh well I'm sorry I said anything and it was great. There was also some kind of fight or something on the floor I guess and he had a really great quip about how when you want to fight just go make out with someone instead. I got that part on film and it was great.

Dave Grohl's voice is amazing live and he's probably totally my favorite screamer. Everytime he sang and then screamed I'm sure I melted a little inside. OMG, it was so awesome and I completley fangirled my little heart out. JDSAS908OVUPDJEJLKCDXXO XOHJIG! It was that crazy and awesome and it made me so happy. I also love his speaking voice, he's one of the few people who have speaking and singing and screaming voices that I love. Off the top of my head the only others that I can think of are Ryan, Kurt and George and John (probably Lennon and Flansy although I had originally intended Lennon). They all have really different personalities and voices too.

There was a family sitting by us who had brought their little girl, she was maybe five or six and at first I was all like I can't believe that they brought a child. Dave Grohl swears! This is an adult show but then she looked so adorable and excited and was so enthusiastic and so I got over my shock and decided that if you talk to your kids and explain stuff that they can handle things. She fell asleep by the end of the show but I hope that she really enjoyed what she was able to see/hear.

They played the sickest version of "Stacked Actors" which is prolly my favorite rock out song on There Is Nothing Left To Lose that was so long and amazing. It still had that awesome film noir feel that I think the song has but it was a lot heavier and rocked out and OMG I was fangirling majorly and sitting on the edge of my seat. They started the song and before he was like this is our song Stacked Actors I was like ZOMG STACKED ACTORS OMG because I lvoe the song so so much. So they started singing it and then went into this sick jam and then Taylor had this amazing drum solo where everytime you thought he was going to end it he kept going it and the crowd was cheering and screaming and it was amazing. Then the rest of the band came back on and they kept jamming and then finished the song and I was all like YES! It was so so good. ASDJKLGF! Ah, pretty much speechless at that point because I had such a good time.

At the end of the show between "All My Life" and the encore they went backstage and there was a camera and they panned and showed the set list and were all like see that's it, we played all the songs on the list. And we were cheering and screaming and clapping and stomping and then Dave held up a finger and his look was all like - one more song? So we cheered and then he held up two fingers and we cheered louder and then Taylor showed up and was like three? And we cheered and it so rocked. Then they came out to play an encore and were like how many Old School fans are here and we cheered and Dave was all so how does that work, do you have valet parking or something? Then they played the encore and it was amazing and the show was great and in my top three concert experiences along with Mister Ryan Adams and the fabulous TMBG. I'm still on such a concert high and I'm so excited that I finally got to see one of my favorite bands in concert. :D

Set List

Let It Die
The Pretender
Times Like These
No Way Back
Learn To Fly
Cheer Up Boys
Young Man Blues (Who cover that had some really amazing jammy moments and was just...guh, yes guh.)
Long Road To Ruin
Breakout
Stacked Actors
Skin and Bones
Marigold
My Hero
Band Intro
Cold Day In The Sun
Everlong
Monkey Wrench (Some awesome jammy moments and they drew out playing Matt's fave part and he was worried they wouldn't include it but that made it even more awesome when Dave started screaming it.)
All My Life
Big Me
Bargain (Who cover with lead singer from Supergrass)
Best of You

OMG, Ryan is coming to Rochester on Sept. 27. I'm so frakking excited and bouncy and this has made my day and maybe I won't have concert depression because I know that an awesome concert will be coming up. Tickets go on sale on Friday and I'm ... ALJKDYHOIAUSDFH;BG/E. I'm all flaily and capslock happy and I cannot wait. He's been better about not canceling but I'm still worried about that but the happy capslockness of it all is overweighing the fear and I cannot wait. EEEEEEE! :D

Back shortly with concert pics (not the greatest) and review.

Happy X-files Day!

I just got back from the movie and it was so awesome. Having Mulder and Scully back on the screen was wonderful. There were so many little parts that I loved, all the little inside things that were put in for the philes. I'm still digesting everything adn I really want to see it again. I'm thinking of maybe going again after work tomorrow or Sunday. It was just made of so much awesome and the ending bit after the credits made me grin ear to ear and I'm so glad we stayed to watch that part.

I've been working on one icon from every episode of the series that I had wanted to get done by today but I've been busy quilting and working and have gotten part way through season 2. So I'm going to work on that tonight and think about the movie and probably wandering around the house with a dreamy grin. I might watch a few episodes of the series as well and I bought the Revelations dvd for the Wondercon appearance and I still need to watch that as well.

I'm a happy girl! :D

I know the name on the tip of your tongue

The coolest weird thing happened today. I ordered Elvis Costello's Imperial Bedroom cd used from Amazon Marketplace and the person whom I bought it from shares my paternal Grandfather's name and I have his Grandmother's name. I thought it was a really fun, cool concidence. It made me smile and think that even though my Grandpa is dead he's still watching over me.

the hills are alive with the sound of music

It's such a beautiful night out. Sitting on a blanket in the backyard with the pup getting ready to watch my new Doctor Who dvds - Docs #3 & 5. Everybody's been complaining about the temperature but I think it's perfect, especially outside. It's not too hot because there's this perfect breeze and all the birds are singing. Perfect Birthday weather. I ate way too much as I made homemade pasta using my new machine and we had cake and ice cream. I've also been eating these awesome whoppers Alicia found for me. They're Reeses and they taste like really quality peanut butter. I think the only thing that may start to bug me are the bugs but hopefully they won't come out in force for a while. Let's see, what else did I get? Money from Mom and Dad for The King and I, a bookshelf, the pasta maker, scrapbooking stuff from Mom, scrapbook and beading things from Mags, this really pretty purple shirt, a Sawyer action figure from Matt and Casey, and La Bamba and The Buddy Holly Story movies along with candy from Alicia. It was a fun day as well because I went and got some of the fabrics for Alicia's quilt and also some really fun dress patterns.

her name was rose ...

Haven't posted in a while as I've been pretty busy. Trying to get more excersize in so I am walking to work at least two days a week. It's pretty awesome as it give me a chance to take pictures and listen to lots of music and think about the characters for my stories and just to think in general. I have lots of pictures from the walks that I would like to post but for now I'm going to do a mini doctor who picspam. I was watching the series two finale two parter and this scene totally chokes me up still. I think I've watched it half a dozen times and I still am right there with Rose and Ten as their hearts break.

Rose waiting for the Doctor, after explaining to her family the pull and knowing that they'll believe her and help her get wherever she needs. I still feel like she's uncertain if the dream was actually true and is patiently waiting but can't actually believe until she sees him in person.

The Doctor is really in the Tardis, burning up a star - turning it supernova so that he may speak his final goodbye.

The fateful moment when they can finally see each other face to face and

All that Rose would like would be able to touch the Doctor, but even though he's there, he's not really there and this is where my heart really starts to break because even though I'm not a fangirly shipper I really do think that Rose and Ten loved each other and it's so hard to see them separated like this.

They're so glad to see each other but it's a bittersweet reunion as they think this is the last time they'll ever see each other. The rift between the worlds must be closed or else the worlds will pretty much implode and that would suck. So though they feel joy, there is all this pain behind it and it's almost too much because I am spoiled by all those happy endings and would like this for them as well.

Then Rose breaks down because their time is drawing to a close and you can see that the Doctor doesn't want this to end, but he knows it must and both are resigned to their fate. This is where if I'm really feeling vulnerable I will join Rose and start to cry as well.

Both are left alone for the moment, to live their lives apart. Rose with her family on the parallel Earth and the Doctor in our universe with Donna about to materialize in the Tardis which will lead him on a new adventure. It was such a heavy end but I do enjoy the sad and angsty and can't wait to see what happens when Rose reappears this season.

freak out in a moonage daydream

I'm spending the night at Matt and Casey's. We had Matt's Birthday today and it was fun. Everyone gathered at our house for his b-day dinner of Pasta and then pressies and then cake. Then I came over to their house to play Rock Band and hang out. We got the ps3 connected to the internetz and now I'm waiting for the Bowie songs to finish downloading which they just did so now I'm going to go sing my heart out. I may also bring out my inner Shirley and sing some Garbage tunes. Alright off to the funtimes! Laters. :)

no music + no lyrics = boring title

my sister got fish today, a betta and some little gold fish. i guess the betta was attacking the others and so they took him out of the tank but they did not put him in something tall enough/didn't put the lid on the container and he jumped out. my mom brought me upstairs to show me them and we found him on the floor and it was horrible. she picked him up and put him back in the water and we thought he was pretty dead but then he started to swim and be feisty and jumpy. we don't know how long he was out of the water though and it kind of doesn't look like he's going to make it. i hope he does but i just have this ominous feeling.

i'm going to color the easter eggs for tomorrow now. i get to do them all by myself this year 'cause the girls are out doing things and matt and casey are at their house adn i doubt ma and dad want to help. my guess is they are prolly too tired. they are watching the end of a movie now. hopefully making eggs shiny will help me feel better about Peek's poor fish. i will try not to think about it.

i've got one hand in my pocket and the other's giving a peace sign

isn't weird that sometimes you can completely love an album when you were younger and completely forget about it and not listen to it for years? there's this show on fuse right now about alanis morissette's "You Oughtta Know" from the album Jagged little pill which i so loved back in the day. i think i listened to that for like a month straight when it first came out. I haven't listened to it in forever and listening to the little clips on the show made me remember how much i loved the album. i really need to put it on my ipod. the video was so gorgeous to, pretty colors and i loved the way the images were sort of soft and blurry but still edgy and hard. it's hard to explain.

i was silly and bought the first season of battlestar galactica and the miniseries at the same time not realizing that the miniseries was the first disc of the season. i don't know why i didnt' realize that fact before i bought it. i'm really enjoying it though, i figured i would because many people who share my tastes have recommended it or mentioned how good it was and so i thought i should check it out. it actually was one of those things that i've been meaning to watch forever but never actually got around to buying it til now.

in terms of buying things today i bought a disc with three Brad Pitt movies just because Kalifornia was on there and it was cheaper than buying it alone. i like brad pitt though so it wasn't a bad thing i just know that i wouldn't have bought that particular dvd if it didn't have the movie with duchovny on it. it had thelma and louise which i love as well and i can't remember what the third movie was.

i always think that i don't really enjoy female singers until i start going through my collection and find that i have more cds by females than i think. i just must not listen to them as often or something.

alright gonna go look at peoples pretty icons now. :)

she can take the dark out of the nighttime

i've had a new header and new colors up for a couple of days. made it to unwind because work has been super busy. i think i like it but it's so much lighter in color than the navy that's been my background color for awhile. although i guess most would still consider it pretty dark as it's all shades of grey. i love the pic of Bowie that I used though and really like how the header turned out. it makes me smile.

i've been in a huge Bowie phase the last couple of days, that's pretty much all that i've listened to which is cool. it really makes me want to pick up the rest of his albums.

oh, i forgot that the banner was also a stress reliever for the drama that went down with atcards. so glad that's all over and we've got out shiny sparkly new home at atcsforall.com. i think it's so much more active already and i love the fact that the splintered group is now able to band back together. the positive upbeat vibe that's now at the site is awesome.

i've got the day off tomorrow, ok well technically today which will be nice. i'm planning on reading and working on atcs but i'm so bad at keeping any of my plans. mostly just because i don't feel like doing the things that are on my list at the time i'm actually supposed to be doing them. i try to be a list/plan person but i don't understand how they work. i'm only really good with lists if they are number of cd/book based or if it's for work and those are completely different situations. it's just weird.

oh the other thing i was planning on doing tomorrow was making a pretty pic spam of things that i've been working on but we'll see if that happens. my guess is that it prolly will not.

peeky painted her room purple today and it looks really awesome. ma was worried that it was going to be to dark but i really like it. it was prolly good that she didn't go with the darkest color on the card though because i definitely think ma would have called it way too dark.

i'm thinking of redoing my user pics so that they are all black and white or grey toned and that would be cool adn my journal would really be monochromatic then. i'll have to think that one over. now i'm off to go read for a while and then sleep. laters. :)

One of the music video on demand channels we gets has a Cardinals video. Heh, I am so excited 'cause Ryan and the boys are so my favorite. Anyways it's everything knows from when they were in the studio with all the pretty strands of lights in the background and though I've already seen the video many times it's made me all giggly and happy. i heart when something like that happens. i think i may just go play it again. :)
